Strengthening of the mollusc farming production system in Sardinia, new production sites in the Sardinian lagoon complexes

OBJECTIVES AND EXPECTED RESULTS
- Evaluate the potential production of the different species Crassostrea gigas and Ostrea edulis, with different breeding methodologies through experimental breeding tests and the transfer of breeding methodologies and techniques to companies through the direct involvement of the staff in the entire experimental production cycle ;
- on the basis of an analysis of data and information previously collected during the OstrInnova project, with the involvement of the FLAGs and the Laore agency, new pilot sites suitable for the development of oyster farming activities will be identified, in which the companies have expressed their plan to breed oysters. The presence of the indigenous flat oyster will be investigated;
- implement the ShellSIM growth model, fed with the environmental and trophic data collected, as a useful tool to evaluate the production potential, in terms of survival and growth (length and weight) of animals, of different areas of the same site but with environmental characteristics different, the identification of areas with different productivity potential will allow to evaluate a possible diversification of growth within the same site;
- carry out a characterization of the environment by analyzing the environmental parameters, before installing the experimental plant modules and after the experimental breeding activity. Environmental changes due to oyster farming will be assessed.
