Summer School

2018 Edition:

From 24 to 29 September 2018, the Scientific School Aquaculture RISE has take place at the IMC Foundation on the issues of the conscious management of marine resources and sustainable aquaculture systems.
The educational objective of the school has been to provide scientific and technical competencies on the state-of-the-art and future trends in the reproduction and early rearing of species of commercial interest in Mediterranean aquaculture. Participants have received instruction related to the management of broodstocks, spawning induction, larval rearing techniques and assessment on the quality of the produced eggs, larvae and juveniles. Participants have also learnt about animal wellbeing, auxiliary cultures (microalgae and live prey) and nutritional requirements of the species of interest.

Old editions:

The Summer School “Aquaculture and Biorefinery” took place from 4 to 9 July 2016 at the IMC Foundation (4/6 July) and Porto Conte Ricerche (7/9 July), addressing detailed scientific issues related to the concepts of the sustainable use of products derived from marine ecosystems.

Students have received technical and scientific information related to the exploitation of marine resources for human consumption and for the production of algal biomass. Participants also have learned about the sustainability and quality of fish products, the nutritional requirements of farmed species, the choice of raw materials for the formulation of feed, the many possible applications of micro and macro algae for the production of feed material, and about high-value compounds for food, pharmaceutical and nutraceutical uses.
